President's Message
Welcome to the 142nd Annual Norwood Fall Fair. On behalf of the Board of directors and volunteers we would like to Thank the many people who frequent the Norwood Fall Fair annually and we would also like to thank the people that possibly have not been
but are planning to come this year.
I am proud to say that I am from Norwood. I have been involved with the fair for 30 years, I began when I was 3 years old by showing my calf, from then on the Fair and Thanksgiving weekend have been my favourite time of year. When I was growing up and getting involved with the fair I never knew how big and popular it would grow. Our Fair is one of the best fall fairs in the region. We not only cater to the general public but we still are very much an agricultural fair. From our horse and cattle shows to our sheep, goat and poultry shows. We are proud to have old MacDonalds farm where the kids young and old can get up close and pet farm animals. We have a number of attractions for everyone. We all know that most fairs are for the children and that is why last year we added the kids corral so the kids can go to the Millennium room in the Asphodel/Norwood Community Centre and play with toy Farm equipment while Mom and Dad take a break from all that running around. At any given time you can walk through the Bethren coliseum and hear wonderful entertainment from talented local artists. Of course you could enjoy walking through vendor alley to take a look at what people are selling. Don’t forget the midway... everyone loves the midway, all the rides and games so much to see and do. When you are a kid in any of the area schools one thing you like about going back to school in September is getting to do the school fair projects, from printing to growing vegetables we have lots for the school children and their families to look at. Who could forget the homecraft division, from the delicious baking , canning and homemade items to the interesting art and photography projects from all the talented people that live around our community.
The best part of the fair is the volunteers, the teamwork and effort that they put into it. Without them our fair would not be possible . Not very often anymore would you find the large number of people to work together to get the job done. Thank you.
There are some new jobs to be done, one job that we are pleased to be doing, not only benefits the fair but the whole community. We are going to join the existing curling arena and the exhibition building which will allow for new more accessible, user friendly washroom and give both buildings more square footage to hold bigger and more functions.
I am very excited about my next 2 years as president and look forward to working with all the great volunteers that make Norwood Fair so successful.
I would like to wish everyone happy Thanksgiving in 2010 and invite you to spend some time with us at the Norwood fall fair.
